The regional public discussions on "Economic reforms in Azerbaijan: Achievements and prospects" were held in Aghdam

  • The Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication of the Republic of Azerbaijan launch regional public debates in the regions on "Economic Reforms in Azerbaijan: Achievements and Prospects". The first such discussions was organized in Aghdam in order to deliver to the public reliable information on economic reforms carried out in the country, establish direct dialogues, increase awareness of people, strengthen public-private dialogue, and deliver to the public an reliable message. The meeting was attended by entrepreneurs from Agdam, Fizuli, Terter, as well as representatives of municipalities and the public.

    The event was opened with the welcoming speech of Ragub Mammadov, the head of the executive power of the Aghdam district. Further, Vusal Gasimli, Executive Director of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication spoke about the main objectives of the regional public debates that started in the Agdam region. He said that social and economic development of regions is an issue to which the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attaches high value. The presented report on the results of monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the Strategic Road Maps for the first half of 2017 indicates that the most important tasks related to the development of the regions for the forthcoming period have already been determined. These tasks include activities such ensuring the sustainability of the country's economic stability, creation of industrial zones, and the increase in the volume of private

    investment attracted to the regions. Elkhan Mikailov, Head of the Unit at the Office of the Assistant to President on Economic Policy and Industrial Issues added that the organization of such meetings in the regions on a regular basis is of great importance in order to undertake analysis by regions and develop the non-oil sector of the country. According to him, purpose of economic reforms is to ensure the stability, diversification and competitiveness of the country's economy. "A number of important decisions have been made regarding the further improvement of the investment and business enabling environment. Besides, the government has also taken all necessary measures to improve legislative base and provide comprehensive support to entrepreneurs to expand their business activities, which in turn contributed to the transformation of Azerbaijan into the fastest and dynamically developing country of the world in recent years." Elkhan Mikailov also recalled the establishment of the Commission in connection with the increase of business environment and improvement of Azerbaijan’s positions in international rankings.

    Further, Nijat Hajizadeh, analyst of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication made a presentation on "Economic Development of the Regions". The event was also attended by representatives of the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Taxes.

    Fariz Ahmedov, the head of the Unit at the Ministry of Economy spoke on the topic "Reforms implemented for the support of business development and improvement of business environment, and the results achieved." Following the speeches, the event was continued with Q&A session where speakers answered questions entrepreneurs, representatives of municipalities and the public. At the end, the participants of the discussions visited the cotton processing plant operating in Agdam.

    It is worth to note that similar events would be organized in Sheki, Guba, Ismayilli, Ganja, Shirvan, Lankaran and Mingechevir.
